-Wants Two Associate Justices Impeached
The National Chairman of the Independent Civil Rights Center, Melvin Page has written the Plenary of the House of Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings against two Justices of the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia, Justices Jamesetta Wollokiie and Kabineh Ja’neh.
The Civil Rights Leader in his communication read in Tuesday’s July10, 2012 Session informed the Representatives that the two Associate Justices violated Article 70 of the 1986 Constitution.
Article 70 of the Liberian Constitution among other things states that the Chief Justice and the Associate Justices of the Supreme Court and all judges of Subordinate courts shall, before assuming the functions of their office, subscribe to a solemn oath or affirmation ton discharge faithfully and impartially the duties and functions of their offices and to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Liberia. The oath or affirmation shall be administered by the President or his designee.
According to Mr. Page, the two Associate Justices of the Honorable Supreme Court failed to live in line with Article 70 of the 1986 Constitution and as such crave for their immediate impeachment from the bench of the country’s highest court.
The Representatives sent Mr. Pages’ communication to the committees on Judiciary, Claims and petition to study the merit and demerits of the impeachment recommendation and report to plenary within one month.
