House Concurs One China Policy
The 53rd Legislature reaffirms resolution on the one China Policy adopted by the National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA) in 2005.
According to the LEGISLATURE, after six years of cooperation in the face of renewed diplomatic relations between the two countries which engendered countless benefits in economic recovery programs, infrastructure development, culture exchange, security sector reform among others, there was a grave need for continuity in such bilateral relationship.
“We the democratically elected members of the Senate and House of Representatives of the 53rd Legislature of the Republic of Liberia, exercising its constitutional mandate do herewith renew and reaffirm the Resolution Adopted and Approved by the National Transitional Legislative Assembly on August 19, 2005”.
The Resolution also states that the decision is base on careful consideration of the comprehensive strategic national development interest of Liberia in the 21st century.
It noted that since the resumption of Diplomatic Ties with the People’s Republic of China, many contributions especially in infrastructure development is being carry out by China and more earmarked could be implemented if the tie becomes permanent.
