House Passes ‘Harbel Community College’ into law
The Plenary of the House of Representatives on Tuesday July 10 unanimously voted and passed into law, the Act creating the ‘Harbel Community College’ in Margibi County.
The decision followed a recommendation from a Joint Committee on Education and Judiciary. The bill seeking for the establishment of the Harbel Community College was initiated by Margibi County District Number -Two Representative, Ballah G. Zayzay for the establishment of the community college principally to boost the country’s human resource development.
The draft bill was sent to the Joint Committee on Education and Judiciary four weeks ago for review and to advise the Plenary concerning the passage of the draft bill into law or not.
In its recommendation to the House Plenary, the Joint Committee on Education and Judiciary recommended the immediate passage of the draft bill into law as a means of encouraging higher education in that part of the country .
According to the Joint Committee, its decision recommending the passage of the draft bill into law comes as a result of several meetings with educational stakeholders in the country who agreed in principle for the enactment of the law to create the Harbel Community College.
The Joint Committee among other things added that the establishment of the Harbel Community College will greatly help to advance Liberia’s educational initiative. The Joint Committee further advised the House Plenary to pass the law of the Harbel Community College .
Meanwhile, the document has been sent to the Liberian Senate for its concurrence.
