Senate summoned Acting Monrovia City Mayor for Beaten Its Staff Unmercifully
On 31st May 2012, The Liberian Senate in its 37th day sitting summoned the Acting Monrovia city Mayor Madam Mary Broh to show reason while the Senate should not pass a vote of no confidence in her after she allegedly assaulted Madam Nancy Gaye who is the the Special Assistant in the Office of Maryland County Senator John Ake Ballout.
The Senate summoned Madam Broh based on a communication from Madam Gaye complaining her (Broh) to the full plenary of the Liberian Senate. According to the Communication, Madam Gaye alleged that on the 25th of May 2012 she was assaulted by Mayor Broh for not "escaping" from her (Madam Broh) and her crew during their cleaning up campaign. According to Madam Gaye's narration, when the yonder boys were shouting saying "Mary Broh is coming your escape". during that process she asked, "why should I escape" it was her statement that Madame Broh heard and came back to ask her as to what she has said, "what did you say" and she responded to Mayor Broh exactly what she has told the Yonder Boys that "why should I escape"? in the words of Nancy Gaye Mary Broh told her that "emmh, so you are challenging me" and just within that process Madam Broh slapped her.
Nancy Gaye as staff of the Senate, is covered with rules 62 section 2 of the body that provides for the protection of Members of the Senate, Immediate Family and staff.
The Senate will now take action until it has looked into the complaint and hear the side of Mary Broh when she appear before the Senate on June 4.
Meanwhile, the Senate has also summoned Justice Minister Christiana Tarr and Deputy Police Commissioner for Operation to appear before the body for separate reasons. For Minister Tarr, she is to appear to tell the Senate why Madam Broh continues travel with huge Security Forces behind her.
For his part, Deputy Police Director for Operation Abraham Kromah is to appear to give reason why he couldn't handled the case at the time Madam Gaye first compliant the Mayor to the police. According to Madam Gaye's Communication, when she assaulted, Commissioner Kromah was the first Senior Police Officer she told her complaint, but was told that the police has no authority over Mary Broh as she was beyond their reach.
The Senate is not a court room, however, it has oversight responsibility to call public officials to order when they are going contrary to their functions. It is anybody guest as to what action will be taking.
